Suspect in custody following joint operation

The Wills Point Police Department and Wills Point ISD Police Department each took to social media last week, announcing the arrest of a Marshall area resident on multiple charges. According to a May 27 post by the WPPD, “The Wills Point Police Department along with the Wills Point Independent School District Police Department and Department of Public Safety - CID have been conducting an investigation for the last several weeks that has now led to the arrest of Marshall, TX resident Aaron Alvarez.

Local gas prices spike once again

Average gasoline prices in Texas have risen 13.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.27/g May 23, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 50.6 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand $1.52/g higher than a year ago. The price of diesel has risen 22.6 cents nationally in the past week and stands at $5.518 per gallon.

TASB announces the end of its membership in the National School Boards Association

Following a special called board meeting, the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) announced May 23 that it was ending its membership in the National School Boards Association (NSBA) following the release of an independent investigation that found operational deficiencies and lack of internal controls and processes within NSBA.

Storms damage monument at Veterans Park

A monument at Veterans Memorial Park in the Eastern portion of Wills Point was found knocked off its pedestal and broken into pieces earlier this week. After a thorough investigation, the Wills Point Police Department identified last week’s severe weather as the likely culprit in the incident. The park has sustained similar damage in the past due to inclement weather. Details about any potential fundraising campaigns to pay for the damage were not immediately available as of press time.
