The Wills Point Police Department and Wills Point ISD Police Department each took to social media last week, announcing the arrest of a Marshall area resident on multiple charges.

According to a May 27 post by the WPPD, “The Wills Point Police Department along with the Wills Point Independent School District Police Department and Department of Public Safety - CID have been conducting an investigation for the last several weeks that has now led to the arrest of Marshall, TX resident Aaron Alvarez.

“Through the investigation, it was found that Alvarez was creating fake social media profiles and soliciting juvenile females for pornographic imagines. As the investigation continued, the Wills Point Police Department drafted ten felony arrest warrants along with additional search warrants for all of Alvarez electronic devices. Alvarez was arrested a short time ago at his residence by both Wills Point agencies, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Harrison County and Longview County DPS – CID.”

Wills Point Police Department Chief Aaron Long stated, “We want to thank all the agencies for their continued assistance during this investigation. Great team work to all!”

Wills Point ISD Chief of Police Tim Scharfenburg echoed a similar message in a follow-up post noting, “Aaron Alvarez was taken into custody on ten felony warrants for child pornography, distribution of child pornography, and soliciting sexual performance of a child. Wills Point ISD Police Department has been in a month-long joint investigation with Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety out of Garland and Longview, and the Wills Point Police Department… At this time, I would like to commend our administrators, police department, and other law enforcement agencies for the work they have done to bring this man to justice and to protect this Wills Point ISD student.”

Scharfenburg went to stress the importance of monitoring a child’s online activities adding, “Wills Point ISD and Wills Point ISD Police Department strongly encourage our families to monitor your student’s online activity. To keep children safe, it is imperative that we have conversations regarding appropriate online behavior, what to do if you are contacted by an unknown person via social media, and the consequences of inappropriate and/or illegal behavior. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact an administrator or the Wills Point ISD Police Department at 903-873-5100.”
