The 25 Annual East Texas Baptist Campmeeting “REVIVAL” is scheduled for July 11-15 at the Canton Civic Center in Canton. With an average nightly attendance of nearly 1,000 people, this Campmeeting Revival is one of the largest annual weeklong religious gatherings in East Texas. This nonprofit meeting is free and open to the public.

“We had a great turnout for Miss Hannah’s Intro-To-Music Camp. The camp helps kids learn music appreciation, instrument recognition, rhythm and more,” stated VZC Librarians. The Music Camp is just one of the programs that the library has brought to the county and to Canton during the summer months.

The James Pinckney Henderson Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas met June 25 in Canton. Members enjoyed the presentation by Pat Thibodeau on Republic of Texas Citizen and Early Settler in Van Zandt County Elvira Engledow who is buried in Hillcrest Cemetery.

The Van Zandt County Genealogical Society held its regular monthly meeting on June 25 at the main county library in Canton. In addition to regular Society business, the meeting featured awards to two persons with deep roots in Van Zandt County.

Terrell’s own country/rock music star, Kaelynn Nikole, is excited to be the opener for the BFTS Museum’s July 3rd fundraiser at the Terrell Municipal Airport that features the American Country Music nominated band, A Thousand Horses.

Hope Pregnancy Center held a BBQ fundraiser on June 16, at the Pregnancy Center catered by BBQ & A Prayer. The event was designed for patrons to donate needed items to the Center and also have a chance to have some great barbeque. Donations still needed include: Johnson & Johnson baby toiletries, Dr. Brown’s bottles, bathing suits, clothes size 9 months to 2T, Amazon and Walmart gift cards. Photo by Britne Hammons

The Van Zandt County Library welcomed Wildlife on the Move on June 17. The presentation was part of the Van Zandt County Library Summer Reading program held every Friday at the library. There were 120 children and 84 adults who attended Friday’s program. Numerous animals were presented to the crowd including snakes, lizards, iguanas, a possum and more.
