Lady Tigers top Paris in four

The Wills Point Lady Tigers were able to exact a measure of revenge and build some extra confidence heading into District 13-4A play next week, squaring off against the Paris Lady Cats for the second time this season Sept. 8.

Wills Point and Paris originally crossed paths in the third-place match at the Edgewood’s third annual Back to School Dig-Fest Tournament. The Lady Cats would get the upper hand on Wills Point during that meeting, fending off an early deficit to score a three-set win over the Lady Tigers, 17-25, 25-20, 25-19.

Wills Point would even the season-series with Paris last week, defending their home court with an impressive four-set win over the Lady Panthers.

The Lady Tigers got off to a quick start in the match, taking the first set 25-21 over Paris. The Lady Cats bounced back in the second, evening the match at one set each by edging Wills Point 23-25.

Unlike the first meeting between the two teams, the Lady Tigers played their best volleyball of the night down the stretch by taking the third set 25-22 and the fourth by a commanding 25-18 margin.

Wills Point will wrap up non-district play today (Sept. 15) with a home match against Oakwood. JV teams will begin play at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity match beginning at 6 p.m.

The Lady Tigers will be on the road for three consecutive games to begin district play, traveling to Mabank Sept. 22, Canton Sept. 26 and Van Sept. 29. Wills Point will return home Oct. 3 to take on reigning district champion Emory Rains.
