Swinging into summer at the VZC Library

The Van Zandt County Library is back in full swing for the summer. The new shelves have been installed and the air is electric with all the excitement.

The Summer Reading Program will kick off about all things electric.

Trinity Valley Electric Co-op, who has provided a grant to fund the Summer Reading programs, will present this very interesting program. Life without electricity is hard to imagine. The presenters will cover the wise and safe use of this power; and there will be some pretty nifty demonstrations!

Wills Point Rotary Club contributing to local education efforts

Through its annual “All Fore” Kids Charity Golf Tournament, the Wills Point Rotary Club has been able to award more than $20,000 in educational grants for the district.

Wills Point Rotary has served our community for 76 years. While we join Rotary International's quest to eradicate polio from the world, our primary focus is on improving the lives of those in our community. Specifically, we focus on making the lives of the children in our community better.

The Wills Point Rotary Club has contributed over $60,000 to the Wills Point community.  Service projects have included donations to Head-Start, giving dictionaries to third grade students, and paying for eye-glasses for WPISD students in need, among other acts of charity.

During this time the club has sponsored numerous high school juniors to Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), a weekend leadership training program. The club has also awarded over $30,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors to further their education beyond high school.

Rawwr into reading

All about dinosaurs at Storytime

Ms. Kitty read books during Storytime at the Van Zandt County Library. The theme was dinosaurs. The first book was ‘Princess Dinosaur’ by Jill Kastner. This dinosaur was quite unique, complete with a red skirt and a crown. The second book was ‘Dinosaurs Love Underpants’ by Clair Freedman and Ben Cort, which is a story solving the mystery as to how and why the dinosaurs were wiped out. According to this story, the dinosaurs died out in a great ‘briefs tug-of-war.” The last story read was ‘Saturday Night at the Dinosaur Stomp’ by Carol Diggory Shields. This story is about all the dinosaurs getting ready for a great big dance that was so outrageous it lasted past the Cretaceous age.

Come to the Van Zandt County Library located at 317 First Monday Lane, Canton for Storytime for preschoolers at 10 a.m. every Friday.
