Birthday celebration canceled due to weather

Organizers behind the construction of the Hardman-Watson Memorial Playground entered last week hoping that Mother Nature would hold off on rainy conditions to allow for a planned 11th birthday celebration/fundraising event to be held at the north ballfields this weekend.

Plans initially called for the 11th birthday party/fundraising event to be held in memory of Adam Hardman, one of the youngest victims of a single-vehicle accident that claimed the lives of five people with local ties Nov. 19, 2014, on Feb. 18 at the north ballfields.

Inclement weather in the days leading up to the event, which were also set to include a bounce house, unveiling of the newly constructed Hardman-Watson Memorial Playground, as well as a raffle with prizes including a $100 Academy gift card, bicycle, framed, vintage baseball print, television, and set of Rangers bobble heads, initially caused the event to be pushed back a week to Feb. 25.

With more rain falling over the past week and inclement weather forecast Feb. 23 and Feb. 24, organizers announced via social media that this year’s birthday celebration has been cancelled.

A post on the Hardman Memorial Playground page announced, "Due to this nasty weather, we have decided to cancel the baseball game birthday party. However, since we have some very generous donors who have already donated some awesome raffle prizes, the raffle is still on. We will do the drawing and announce the winners live on Facebook next Wednesday, Feb. 28! So, get those raffle tickets! We've got some great prizes!"
