Lady Tigers nearing end of 2017-’18 season

The Wills Point Lady Tigers crossed paths with a familiar foe Jan. 26, taking on county rival Van for the second time during the district portion of the calendar.

Unfortunately for the Lady Tigers, play between the two teams would mirror their first matchup back on Jan. 9 (a 56-30 win by Van) with the Lady Vandals securing a 61-31 win against Wills Point.

Wills Point would keep things competitive during the first quarter as Van built a modest 14-8 lead on the visiting Lady Tigers. The margin would widen throughout the rest of the second and third quarters as Van outscored the Lady Tigers 19-7 in the second and 21-9 in the third to build up a 54-24 lead heading into the final quarter.

Wills Point regained its defensive footing down the stretch, playing Van to a 7-7 draw over the final eight minutes to close out the 61-31 loss.

The Lady Tigers are scheduled to wrap up their 2017-'18 season with a home game against Rains tonight (Feb. 2) and a road trip to Canton Feb. 6. The game against the Lady Cats will serve as Senior Night for the Wills Point program.
