Cross country teams race at Van Meet

Wills Point’s cross country teams stayed close to home for the second consecutive weekend, following up an appearance at the Canton Invitational Sept. 16 with a trip to the Van Invitational Sept. 23. Tiger teams took won first overall in multiple divisions, including the varsity girls, JV girls and JV boys divisions.

The varsity girls place took first place as a team, led by Hannah Sauceda in third place with a time of 12:52. Leslie Gonzalez placed seventh with a time of 16:59, Brisa Carrillo placed ninth with a 14:16, Kaylee King placed 10th with a 14:42, Allison Wolfe placed 11th with a time of 14:57, and Kimberlie Lumsden placed 16th with a time of 15:41.

In the JV girls division, Natalee Darst placed second with a time of 15:46, Elizabeth Cockerham placed sixth in 16:33, Jaylee Phillips placed seventh in 16:42, Haylee Parker placed eighth in 16:57, and Makayla Gassman finished 13th in 18:35.

The varsity boys team placed second overall, led by Cade Davis in fourth with a time of 17:51. Cole Williams placed fifth in a time of 18:20, Aidan Phillips placed 13th with a time of 19:34, Edwin Figueroa placed 16th with a time of 19:57, Xavier Torres placed 17th with a time of 19:58, and Stetson Malpass placed 19th with a time of 20:06.

The JV boys won their division, led by Chase Phillips in third place with a time of 20:10. Gerardo Gonzalez placed fourth with a time of 20:12, Justin Palmer placed sixth with a time of 20:53, Avery Barnes placed seventh in 21:32, Omar Valdez placed eighth with a time of 21:34, Jorge Mireles placed 12th with a time of 22:29, Clayton Holman placed 13th with a time of 22:38, Luis Ortiz placed 14th with a time of 22:43, Ricardo Gomez placed 26th with a time of 27:20, and Christian Aquino placed 28th with a time of 27:54.

The junior high girls placed third as a team, led by Lexi Taylor with a 15:52, Liz Jeffrey with a 16:21, Kinley Collins with a 16:58, Hallie Lovvorn with a 16:59, and Ashlie Hernandez with a 19:41.

Ruger Cates ran in the JH boys division and finished with a time of 15:25.

The Wills Point varsity is scheduled to compete in Lindale Oct. 5 before competing at the district meet in Canton Oct. 11.
