The next wave of Wills Point Tiger Band standouts were kept busy throughout last week, participating in the annual WPJH Summer Band Academy July 10-14. Unlike previous years, Tiger Band instructors tweaked the formula somewhat from previous years, conducting instructional sessions in the mornings followed by activities that encourage comradery in the afternoons.

WPJH Band Director Bobby McCoy explained, “At the Academy we try to mix music work and fun. The music is both serious audition music and fun spirit or pep music. There is something at the camp for everybody. We mix up the instruction time between full band, splitting into the three major groupings that make up a band and sectionals where we teach each individual instrument section.  By differentiating instructional groupings, students have the opportunity to work with a variety of other students and instrument sections throughout the day as well as explore several music styles.”
