Thelma “Estelle” Brumit was born on Dec. 21, 1928, in Garland, to John William and Lille Emma Leona Ivy Evie “Sophie Pearl” Brumit. She married the love of her life, James David Groves, in Dallas on July 24, 1944, and they made their home in Dallas. She and J.D. celebrated 67 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2014. Estelle was a homemaker. After J.D. retired, they moved to Edgewood in 1989 to be close to their family. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Edgewood.
Estelle loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with all her heart. She spent her life serving her family, her husband and everyone she met. We watched as she nurtured others through cooking, sewing, praying and walking together with her husband. Together they passionately raised their only daughter, Beverly, then as the grandkids came along, they continued this tradition of making each one of them the highlight of their day.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, J.D. Groves; infant son, Paul David Groves; granddaughter, Stephanie Gibbons Eddins; brothers, J.W., Paul, Buford, Troy and Roy Brumit and sisters, Ethel Janelli, Bertha Groves and Irene Jarrell.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Gibbons and husband, Bill of Edgewood; sister-in-law, Dorothy Groves; grandchildren, Jennifer Grell and husband, Jim, Benjamin Gibbons and wife, Kaci, and Justin Eddins; great-grandchildren, Madilynne, Meagan and Ashton Crye, Emily, Katelynn and Landon Eddins, Jakob, Blaine and Harper Gibbons, and Samantha and Elizabeth Grell; as well as many nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
