The Wills Point Police Department is expected to welcome hundreds of visitors to Jack Lester Park June 11 as they host their annual Back the Blue Benefit.
The event has become a family favorite in recent years, with music, demonstrations and a BBQ cook-off serving as key highlights.
This year’s edition will include more of the same with a list of activities set to include an Outlaw BBQ Association sanctioned cook-off that will begin June 10 and end June 11.
Cook-off participants are scheduled to turn in their cook’s choice dish by 7:30 p.m. June 10. Turn in times for the following day will be as follows: jackpot beans, noon; chicken, 1 p.m.; pork spareribs, 2 p.m.; and brisket, 3 p.m.
Awards announcements for the cook-off and trophy presentations will take place beginning at 4 p.m.
Kid’s will have plenty to do throughout the day June 11 with bounce houses, sling shots, tug of war, kites, water balloons and more at the ready for them to enjoy.
Other attractions at the daylong event will include a silent auction, a K9 presentation featuring local handlers and a hometown car show.
Proceeds raised from the Back the Blue event will go towards the Wills Point Police Department K9 unit.
