Camaro Destroyed In Two-Car Crash

J.C. Jones, Correspondent

Emergency responders were alerted to a major accident at the intersection of State Highway 276 and Hunt County Road 2584 last Friday.

At 1:43 p.m., American Medical Response paramedics and emergency units of the Union Valley Volunteer Fire Department found major damage to one vehicle and minor damage to a second vehicle.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Robert McDonald said, "A red Chevrolet Camaro, driven by Heather D. Campbell with a single passenger, was westbound on State Highway 276.

"A Green Chevrolet Z-71 pickup, driven by Llagueline Navarro, age 36, of Royse City and a single passenger was approaching Hunt County Road 2584 and then entered the roadway and failed to yield the right of way to the Camaro."

Both occupants of the pickup escaped injury as well as the driver of the Camaro, who was fully restrained by both seatbelt protection as well as a fully deployed airbag.

The passenger of the Camaro wore a seatbelt but was taken to Presbyterian Hospital of Rockwall for evaluation of reported minor injuries.

Trooper McDonald added that wearing a seatbelt is not only the law but also that wearing a seatbelt can save lives. The Camaro was totaled but both occupants of the vehicle will live because they used their seatbelts, he said.

All traffic was diverted to the open two lanes of travel on the southbound side of the roadway by volunteer firefighters of the Union Volunteer Fire Department until Lone Oak Wrecker units cleared the road at 3:03 p.m.
