Kitsi Vista Home Burns To Ground
A home in the Kitsi Vista Addition was destroyed by fire last Thursday afternoon.
The Quinlan Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to a fire in the addition, located off State Highway 34 at 10655 Hill Top Circle, at 2:21 p.m. The initial responders saw a thick column of black smoke and called for the immediate assistance of the Tawakoni South and Able Springs Volunteer Fire Departments.
A second report of heavy smoke was reported in the Farm-to-Market Road 751 area and multiple units of the West Tawakoni Volunteer Fire Department responded to seek the source of the fire in the Quinlan fire district.
The Union Valley and Cash Volunteer Fire Departments were also placed on standby to provide coverage for the Quinlan fire district.
The first fire responders reported a fully involved single story home and also reported that that there was no one in the blazing building.
The Quinlan VFD set up a command post and set up multiple hose lines from the fire engines of the Quinlan and Tawakoni South departments, and coordinated the arrival of rotating water tankers from the Able Springs and Tawakoni South VFDs.
However, the home could not be saved and was totally destroyed by the inferno.
Several firefighters were treated and released at the scene for heat exhaustion due to the summer heat that neared 100, and the fact that the firefighters were wearing the required protective equipment or "Bunker gear" that can weigh up to 80 pounds.
The system of rotating water tankers and the high-pressure volume of two fire engines slowly brought the flames under control and the Able Springs Volunteer Fire Department firefighters were released at 5:31 p.m.
The Cash, Union Valley and West Tawakoni departments were released from standby status at 5:42 p.m. The Quinlan command was terminated and the last QVFD vehicle left the scene at 6:16 p.m.
