CAlhoun Goes To Disney

Randal Brewer, Sports Editor

Van senior, Jermie Calhoun participated in the ESPN Under Armour All-American Game last Saturday at Disney’s Wide World of Sports.

Eighty of the best high school football players were selected to participate in the event that included a week of festivities and practices. Calhoun played with and against future opponenets and teamates, as many of the players have verbally committed to Division I schools.

Calhoun’s Red Team led at the half, 7-3, but eventually lost, 17-14, on a late touchdown pass from the Silver Team’s Kyle Parker, to Jamie Harper, both from Jacksonville FL.

Calhoun was credited with 18 yards on seven carries in the pass-first contest. He picked up a first down early the game, and took some direct snaps in the shotgun formation.

The Red Team took a late 14-10 lead after an interception return for a touchdown before the Silver Team answered with the final drive and score.

The Red Team was coached by former SMU and New England head coach Ron Meyer, while the Silver Team was led by Jim Hanifan, a longtime NFL line coach.
