The Edgewood Bulldogs, according to head coach Jay Jameson, were playing their best basketball of the season last week. In the past three games, also the first three district games, the Bulldogs had an average margin of victory of 92-36.
The roll started with a 97-29 win over Grand Saline, when Edgewood jumped out to a 30-4 first quarter. Chase Sage scored 12 points in the quarter, and finished with 19. Jason Knotts hit three 3-pointers in the second quarter as the Bulldogs built a 55-12 halftime lead.
Weston Jameson scored 10 points in the third quarter, as he and Darrius Rogers both scored 20 for the game.
Every player on the Roster scored for Edgewood, with Trey Prater scoring 10, Colten Humphries, nine; Justin King, six; Aaron McClellan, four; and Kyle Simmons, two.
Anthony Hill led the scoring for Grand Saline, with 11 points. He was followed by Jordan Grier, Anthony Jackson and Steven Smalley, all with four points. Taylor Phelps, Carl Whitaker and Kyle Keahey all added two.
Rogers and Jameson combined for 45 points in a 97-41 win over Winnsboro. The pair started hot, combining for 16 in the first quarter, when the Bulldogs opened a 29-14 lead. For the second game in a row, Knotts hit three 3s in the second quarter, and the Bulldogs led 51-21 at the half. Jameson added 11 third quarter points to his total of 26 for the game.
Rogers finished with 19 for the night, followed by Knotts and Sage with 12; Prater with 10; McClellan, seven; Simmons and Humphries with four each; and King had three.
Edgewood was held to a mere 82 points when they traveled to Como-Pickton last Tuesday night. Jameson was held scoreless in the first quarter, and the Bulldogs only led by two, 17-15. The junior guard scored nine in the second quarter, though, and Edgewood outscored Como-Pickton by a 25-5 margin, and took a 42-20 lead into the locker room.
King scored four points in every quarter for a total of 16, while Jameson hit 7-of-10 free throws in the second half, totaling 18 points for the game. Prater finished with 11; Rogers and Humphries both had 10; knots scored seven; Sage, six; and McClellan four.
The Bulldogs hosted Hawkins on Friday night, and Alba-Golden comes to town on Tuesday. Edgewood finishes the first round of district games on Friday, January 18, in Quitman.
