Lady Eagles Finish Softball Season

Randal Brewer, Sports Editor

The Canton Lady Eagles split games with Chapel Hill and Athens before falling in the final two games of the season.

Bri Chamberlain led the offense with a 4-for-4 night in the 9-5 win over Chapel Hill, including a triple and an RBI.

Chapel Hill took an early lead, scoring in the top of the first, but Canton scored four in the second, and five in the sixth to build a 9-2 lead. Chapel Hill scored three in the bottom of the seventh, but would get no closer.

Chamberlain had the only hit of the night in a 10-0 loss at Athens on Friday night. The Lady Hornets put up 10 hits and scored one in the second, three in the third, and five in the fourth to build a 9-0 lead.

The Lady Eagles lost a close game against a state-ranked team when they fell to the Lady Vandals by a 2-1 margin in the season finale in Van on Friday night.

Canton got the early lead when Samantha Reid hit a leadoff single in the top of the second inning. Maegan Spears then layed down a bunt that was misplayed by the Van defense. Cindi Farrell followed with an RBI single to center for the only Lady Eagle run.

The Lady Vandals answered with a solo home run by Brittany Wood in the bottom of the fourth to tie the score.

Van loaded the bases in the fifth inning, and pushed across a run with two outs to take the lead.

The win secured Van a second place finish behind Bullard in district 14-3A. Canton finished the season 10-15, with a district mark of 3-7.
