Chamber To Host Evening Stroll
The Wills Point Chamber Of Commerce will be hosting the first annual downtown stroll on the evening of Saturday, September 6.
The stroll will include a progressive dinner, with local businesses providing the meals.
Some of the entertainment will include local historians spinning tales of old Wills Point.
The chamber’s goal is for the community to enjoy some of the historical aspects of Wills Point, and to raise money for a matching grant program. The program provides up to $500 for improvements to the outside of buildings.
"City’s of all sizes are realizing the importance of keeping their downtown’s healthy," said city manager Jim Stephens. "In cities where there is a strong downtown, historic buildings are preserved, new businesses are opening and bringing in new jobs and visitors will come to shop, dine or see local attractions.
"All of this is geared toward increasing the sales tax revenue for the city," Stephens continued. "It’s very important to increase that portion of our revenue, and this event we are planning is a first step toward doing that. We’re very excited about the possibilities, and we’re planning on some good entertainment, good food and fellowship."
Board members Robbi Stewart and Denise Ross will co-chair the event, and an organizational meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 1, at 6 p.m. at the chamber building. Anyone interested is encouraged to attend.
Tickets can be purchased at the chamber, and will be limited to 250.
