Chase Ends In Arrest
A Granbury man led law enforcement on a high speed chase along Interstate 20 and down Farm-to-Market roads before he was caught and arrested on multiple charges.
Department of Public Safety Troopers Brady Lunceford and Matthew Skinner were stopped along eastbound Interstate 20, around 9 p.m. July 7, near the Kaufman/Van Zandt County lines.
Lunceford said while running his radar, "I check a vehicle on I-20 eastbound traveling 88 miles per hour in a 70 mile per hour zone."
Lunceford attempts to stop the 2008 white Toyota Sienna van, but instead of stopping, the vehicle accelerated, refusing to stop.
"I checked in pursuit, and pursued the vehicle for approximately 15 miles with speeds reaching 110 miles per hour down I-20 eastbound," Lunceford said.
Meanwhile at the 527 mile marker, near FM 859, Trooper Jason Matura was
able to put down the spike strips and deflate the front left tire.
At the 528 mile marker, Canton Police officer Josh Young deployed the spikes and
deflated the other three tires.
The vehicle stopped on I-20 eastbound near FM 17.
The driver Larry, Bascom McDonald, 61, Granbury, was
arrested and charged with evading arrest with a vehicle which is a state jail felony, resist arrest/search or transport, a Class A Misdemeanor, terroristic threat (for threatening to kill officers when
released from jail), a Class B misdemeanor, and DWI, a Class B misdemeanor.
"According to family members in Granbury, McDonald is being treated for being Manic Depressive and Bi-Polar, and had been off his medicine for approximately three weeks," Lunceford said.
