Family reunions are the best times no matter how often you have them, but when you only can gather every five or more years, they are especially fun. The Hubbard family held their reunion on the last weekend in December, gathering at the home of Tom and Charlene Hubbard. On Dec. 31, 40 people met at the fellowship Hall of First Release Fellowship Church to take pictures, share food and lots of stories and laughs. There were skits and other entertainment including a humorous musical presentation by the family elders, Tom, Paul and Ila. Since the last reunion there had been one birth, three weddings, seven high school graduations and eight college graduations. The family began their lives in Wills Point when P.V. Hubbard opened a business in the city in 1930. In 1933, he married Leota Thurston and they resided on North Sixth Street for 63 years, raising their children there. From this beginning, family members attended the reunion from eight states and 17 cities. The states were from as far north as Michigan, as far south as Texas, as far west as California and as far east as Virginia. Although they have spread out so far, Wills Point will always be home to the Hubbard Family.
