Dear Editor:

On Saturday, June 18, we kicked off the Juneteenth celebration with our annual parade. We had food, cold drinks, and games along with music and softball. In attendance we had over 200- 250 people.

Juneteenth is a holiday in which we come together to celebrate our freedom. We continue to educate our children of the past and prompt them to soar in school and the path that’s allotted them.

Since its inception 36 years ago in the City of Wills Point, the Juneteenth celebration continues to grow each year.

This is only possible because of thoughtful contributions from people like these: Wesley Chapel BC, Pleasant Hill BC, St. Mary C.O.G.I.C., Winslow Custom Building, City of Wills Point Fire and Police Departments, the Wills Point Chamber of Commerce, Addison Properties, State Farm Insurance, All State Insurance, Wills Point Hardware, Wills Point Automotive, the Wills Point Chronicle, Sonic Drive-In, Pop’s Chicken, 24-Hour Mart, Ben’s Mobil, Chip Miller Plumbing, Brookshire’s Grocery Store, Hallman Memorial, American National Bank, Hiett’s Lybrand Funeral Home, Wills Point Chevrolet, state troopers, City National Bank, the Wills Point Community, and the Wills Point Juneteenth Committee members

We would like to thank each of you for your contributions and or donations to the members of the community. We would also like to thank the Wills Point Police Department, Wills Point Fire Department, and the Department of Public Safety for their service during this joyous occasion.

James Thompson – President, Wills Point Juneteenth Committee

Warren Dunn - Vice President, Wills Point Juneteenth Committee
